Growing Greens, Feeding Our Community

15 May 2019 | Shannen Harte

Our Garden Project has become a big part of what we do here at Ikhaya Lo Thando, by providing our team with the necessary skills we are growing and producing the most beautiful and fresh produce to feed our people.

Christian, head of our gardening project is a young man from the local community. It is so wonderful to see the youth from a disadvantaged background wanting to do better by making a life for themselves.

We recently produced a lovely batch of spinach which the kitchen was so pleased about. Not only can we use this produce to provide for the community but in turn we have provided valuable skills to those in our community who can now start their own garden projects at home, providing for their families.

To date, we have grown mealies, spinach, tomatoes, lettuce and our latest being chillies!

What is so special is that the project is actually fun, giving our team a purpose.
