Garden Project Update

14 July 2025 | Shannen Harte

With the first quarter behind us we have been busy prepping the lands for planting new crops which will be ready to harvest in the next few weeks. Our tractor driver has been working very hard on the lands, prepping the grounds and getting everything in order for our team to begin their next task. We have added 3 additional volunteers to our gardening team, bringing the total number of volunteers to 28.

The heavy rains that we recently experienced did affect the growth and production of the existing crops which caused a bit of a delay on our side; however, things are starting to improve now that the weather has improved. We have planted cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and Madumbis to name a few. We are still experiencing some hassles with the local ducks, who insist on coming over the fence from the local dam to take advantage of a "free" meal. We are also trying to raise funds for another tunnel as this protects the crops from any weather damage and unwanted visitors.
