Safety Concerns Over Toxins Found in Local Dam

28 May 2026 | Shannen Harte

The local dam which is on the border of our fenceline has been a valuable resource to help us pump water to our crops in our garden project. Each morning the team goes out to the dam to setup the pump to begin watering crops for the day. When Lucky and Mdu arrived at the dam one morning they immediately noticed that something was not right. They saw many dead fish floating in the water and notified our garden manager.

Upon inspection, Big Boy was certain that something toxic had been put in the water and knew that many members of the community and animals including cows were at risk. We contacted the Department of water and sanitation and urged them to please come out to investigate. For now, we are using municipal water for our crops, however this is costing us a lot of money to run our gardening project. We can only hope that we find a solution soon.
